George White's Scandals of 1924
Permit CardsThe seller whom I purchased this from had
several different examples, but the only one I picked up was this one, clearly
identifiable as Louise Brooks.
Frankly, I have no idea who the others were as there are no names on any of
these large 2-5/8" X 4" trading card style permits. By my best
recollection there are about ten to twelve other different cards with this same
design, front and back. Obviously the reverse of this one was damaged, as
the card had been previously mounted, but it looked to serve the purpose of
being a gag permit which wives were supposed to sign on the dotted line in order
to allow husbands to attend the risque George White's Scandals show.
This particular example, the only one that I've seen has obvious
back damage, slightly rounded corners and slight edge wear on an otherwise clean
front -- I graded the front as VG or 4/10, the back as P or 1/10 for an overall
grade of approximately F or 2/10. It sold on July 17, 2007 for $251.51
on eBay. Imagine if it were NM!
