7 am marks my 8th hour of playing around with my new computer, my first in 7 years and my first time away from old Windows 98 (I don’t know how I never upgraded to XP, but I didn’t!). So far I’ve discovered that my scanner (the only other 7 year old piece of hardware I had) is obsolete and I’m going to have to scrape together $100-$150 to get a new one today–at least that’s a neccesary upgrade, my scans have been lousy lately. I downloaded one of the Microsoft Office 2007 free trials and Word and Excel look real snazzy, so I’m sure they’ll take some adjusting too (I had Office 2000 on the old computer, but it came pre-installed and apparently you can’t reuse the product key in that case ?!?). So that’ll be about another buck-twenty, but I’ve got until April 30 on the free trial before I layout for that. FrontPage, which I use to publish the things-and-other-stuff.com site installed, but I did discover during yesterday’s research that it too will soon be obsolete. I’m not far enough along yet to say if it’s actually going to work for me on my Vista machine or not (cross fingers) but I hope to get to it soon. Listen, the reason I’m putting this here is because I wanted to warn you that if I do have a problem publishing with FrontPage the site’s going to suffer for a bit. At least until I figure out a work-around solution. I may just go forward with the newsletter and publish the original content to this blog rather than on the site itself, but we’ll have to see how far along I get. Okay then, time for a little shut-eye, I really need a break. By the way, besides all of the (somewhat expected) frustrations I am really enjoying Vista.
