Volume 1 Number 11
Undated Issue

WELCOME BACK: This one's more of a "bulletin" than an issue, I just ran out of time this month and couldn't manage to find time to look into a Random Issue. Sorry about that. What I'm hoping this little break does is steal enough time to get me back on track and have next issue mail on the self-imposed deadline that I always miss (last day of the month). I'll cross my fingers on that one.

AUCTIONS & WHAT I HAD PLANNED: I picked up another entire year of The Sporting News, 1947 this time around, which I'm once again listing chronologically. Quick, relevant aside, the first ten issues, dated January 1, 1947--March 5, 1947 are currently up for bid on eBay but end later tonight (Tuesday). What I had planned about two weeks ago was to pull the historic issue where Jackie Robinson makes his debut in Dodger Blue and use it as this issue's Random Issue--didn't happen.

As many of you know, I'm a huge baseball fan, and probably got a little distracted this past week by all of the daytime playoff games! During the season those day games provided nice background noise while I worked (I had the MLB Extra Innings package), but during the playoffs they were a bit of a distraction! Luckily, I don't follow the NFL, and so the distractions will cease from now 'til March for me! By the way, if you're curious, I once again mourn the embarrassing demise of the New York Yankees, unless you're in New York you probably hate 'em (and even if you're here there's half a chance you hate them twice as much!), but that was the big team in town when I first started following the game as a little kid in the late 70's, and they'll always be my team.

Back to business, I'm sorry my Jackie Robinson idea didn't pan out because I thought it'd be a lot of fun doing an October baseball issue, but as the old Bums used to cry themselves, "Wait 'til next year!".

The ten issues ending tomorrow night do by the way contain Jackie Robinson here and there, a good amount on Babe Ruth both entering and being discharged from the hospital, lots of Stan Musial, Ted Williams, and a good amount on Hank Greenberg who's just gone from the Tigers to the Pirates. Once again, here's the link to bid.

I started pulling some research to put together a page on The Youth's Companion as I've just picked up over 100 issues of that publication from the 1890's. Look for them as soon as this week, probably at a rate of about ten at a time, plus a page covering the history of The Youth's Companion on this site before next issue.

Just listed a nice mix of Newsweek from 1950-1969 last night to end next Monday. Nice mix of covers including Ava Gardner, Ike, Douglas MacArthur, Alfred Hitchcock (ripped though), and the Moon Landing.

SNEAK PREVIEW: Work continues on the new e-commerce site. I'll announce now, it will be found at www.old-magazines-for-sale.com, and while there's a placeholder there now, it may be viewable pretty soon. I love the software I'm working with, I'm learning a lot of little programming tricks--since I'm no programmer I could never explain them, but everything is working, and I think I'm putting together a store that will give you a pretty complete shopping experience...even if you don't spend a dime! What I mean by that is, whether you find yourself in what will be a large magazine department or the smaller movie department the store listings are going to interact with my informational magazine and movie sites in a way which eBay would never allow me.

I've begun adding product as the eBay listings expire, which was the plan all along but suits me even better since they raised their rates over there! It's also probably what's taken away the most of my time from other pursuits, such as the Random Issue I gypped you on this issue. It took a lot of tinkering, but I've finally come across a layout that I love, and am doing my best to code as many categories and search options as possible. If any of you ever do this my number one suggestion would be--take your time. I am not a patient person by nature, but this is a project that I was determined to stretch over months and that looks to have been the smart move. Sometimes the delays came unplanned, such as my web provider having trouble installing my SSL certificate--the store isn't going public until that's in place. By the way, one of the top reasons I went with this particular provider is they claim 100% uptime, so as long as they don't hit a slump you can expect that out of old-magazines-for-sale.com when I open the doors there as well!

WRAP-UP: I'm going to say good-bye here, add apologies for a somewhat vacuous issue, and promise something good next month, including for certain, a real Random Issue. I want to close with some screenshots of the new store, since the home page only shows a placeholder I thought it'd be neat to share what it really does and will look like with you. See you on October 31, shoot, that's Halloween, well November 1 at the latest then!

Note: these images won't show up if you're subscribed to the text only edition. If that's the case, you can see them here.

Thank you again!
