WELCOME BACK: It's been a long month because I'm about a week late, but that just means this will be a short month! In the week that's passed since I should have gotten this issue out to you I did manage to create five new pages on the site, three of which are related to this month's Random Issue, managed through a change in hosts for my movie site, was delayed by an unexpected last-minute party invitation (it was fun!), and begun setting up the site that will soon be the companion store to collecting-old-magazines.com. I hope to be able to share the address for that within another issue or two. Pretty busy week, considering I ran my usual amount of auctions as well, and I enjoyed this issue's Random Issue enough that I wanted to be sure not to rush it.
UPDATES: I'll weave in links to those three new and related pages below, but since last issue I've also added a page for beginners called What to Collect which is meant to attract new collectors to the hobby by showing them some of the different ways to collect vintage magazines. I've also added an About Us page, which as I note at the beginning of the page is actually all about me. I wrote this one from scratch, so if you're familiar with my own profile from my movie site this page will obviously cover same of the same ground as far as my collecting and dealing background, but at the same time it is as different as I could possibly make it. I probably should have added this page some time ago, but they are honestly a little uncomfortable to write since they are somewhat revelatory and make me feel as though I'm blowing my own horn when nobody's asked me to. At the same time, these pages do give new visitors a little more information about the person behind my voice, so they are necessary. I'll actually add a photo to this page after I find one taken somewhat recently that I like!
E-COMMERCE NOTES: Well sellers, since last issue we've had the announcement about the fee hike over at eBay, you know, the one designed to alienate eBay Stores owners. My initial comments about this are written down over at the blog on my movie site and I pretty much stand by them. I don't want to say that I'm angry about the fee hike, because that doesn't do any good in the long run, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I am still somewhat miffed.
This issue featured some more about the eBay fee hikes for Store Sellers plus a link to a great resource for finding your own shopping cart.
AUCTION HIGH SPOTS: eBay threw sellers a tiny bone with a discounted listing day, so I for once took part and relisted 160 items that were already in stock but with much lower minimum bids (lower than my store prices that is). Other than ten higher priced items that I listed the bulk of the listings are nothing special, but there may be something that catches your interest. These listings end throughout the day on Tuesday, August 8th, so be sure to have a look as soon as you can. Later in the week are some new auction listings, including several more upper-mid to high grade issues of Saturday Evening Post from 1936-37 and 1940, plus some lower-grade issues of LIFE Magazine. Enjoy, those will all be ending later this week.
OUR RANDOM ISSUE:
Note: The entire Random Issue would appear in this space in the version mailed to subscribers.
That does it, too much? I warned you that I enjoyed Vanity Fair quite a bit, and remember, if you haven't done so yet there are also new pages about Vanity Fair's history, and profiles of Miguel Covarrubias and Edward Steichen. Enjoy them!
As I said earlier, it'll be a short month, there's no way I'll be this late again! In the meantime, keep cool and have a great August! Be sure to head over to my eBay listings to bid or buy old magazines--those profits help keep this all going!
And all right, it's been a long issue, #39 is Clark Gable.
Thank you!
