The Public Enemy (1931)

The Public Enemy on the IMDb

Warner Brothers:  Warner Brothers Gangsters CollectionJames Cagney, Edward Woods, Jean Harlow, Joan Blondell.  I love Jimmy Cagney, but I do  honestly prefer Little Caesar to The Public Enemy, it just seems grittier.  This is still a top-flight gangster movie though and besides Cagney's antics we also have an early Jean Harlow appearance plus the famous grapefruit in Mae Clarke's face scene.  Funny, Harlow is depicted as this ultra-sexy bombshell, but whether it be my own personal taste or more likely just modern taste in general, I think she's dog ugly here with Blondell and Clarke being much more attractive.  Just like the other films in the collection this one comes with an approximately twenty minute documentary attached, plus the Leonard Maltin Night at the Movies feature.  I can't recommend this entire set enough.
