Part of the Universal's The Legacy Collection. Basil Rathbone, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lionel Atwill. December 2005: I just watched Son of Frankenstein last night, and I tell you, somehow I think I missed this one when I saw all of the others as a kid. Lugosi was outstanding as Ygor stealing the show from Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone. Rathbone, playing the original Dr. Frankenstein's son, is an actor I usually enjoy quite a bit but he didn't seem to be putting his all into this one as far as I was concerned. Lionel Atwill was very enjoyable here too. The print was crystal clear, in fact I couldn't believe how clean it played. I had a lot of fun watching this one and (re?)discovering a classic anew. This and the other Universal Legacy Collection sets are a great way to own the several classic horror films for cheap, however keep in mind that these were marketed around Van Helsing (2004) and that the bonus features on these discs contain numerous references to this somewhat lousy recent film.
