Columbia Classics.  Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert in the Frank Capra winner of five Academy Awards.  Seventy-plus years later and this movie still flows seamlessly and entertains the entire way.  Humorous moment during Gable's first scene when he makes a drunken call to his editor.  As he leaves the phone booth with his equally inebriated colleagues around him they all start referring to him as "the King" and call out "Long Live the King."  Of course, by the end of the decade Gable would be anointed the King of Hollywood.  He is outstanding in this film, a likeable guy who could possibly be swayed to do the wrong things if he didn't fall in love with Claudette Colbert.  Colbert is equally great as the rich-girl making her way on her own for the first time.  This DVD was printed about five-six years ago and could use a new pressing just for some better extras.  It at least has a 10-15 minute interview with Frank Capra Jr. about the movie, but it feels like they could do a lot more.  Much sharper picture than I recall from my old VHS though, and the audio was Dolby remastered, which is better than a lot of the oldies can say.  In fact, this must have been one heck of a release when it came out in '99 or so, and it's still worth picking up today if you want to own the film.  Which you probably should.
