New eBay Listings Return Today – Time to Crawl Out of This Vista Money-Pit!

Cracking my knuckles and warming up my fingers on this post, my three-day Vista mind-meld ends the moment I hit publish on this post. I did my scans last night, published my photos where I usually publish them and have a stack of goods ready to start listing…

…just too bad I can’t use TurboLister (TL) to get them up. Big-time Catch-22 if you move from Windows 98 to Vista — eBay is discontinuing its original TL in early April and begging you to upgrade to TL2. TL2 is not compatible with Windows 98. Okay, but neither is compatible with Vista. And so my 14- day trial at Inkfrog begins.

So I’ve bought the computer, an external hard drive advertised to be Vista-compatible (until you head to their site for support and discover that they explicitly claim it does not work with Vista!), a new scanner because my old One-Touch 7600 wasn’t strong enough for the move. I’ve discovered that my old Word and Excel 2000 were junk because they came pre-installed on my last computer (and so, why did they supply me with CDs that I saved for 7 years ?!?), and since I live in a cave it has only come to my attention now that after using the product for 5-6 years, FrontPage has ceased to exist, replaced by something called Expressions that I’ve seriously only just heard of this past weekend. And oh yeah, several pages on things-and-other-stuff.com that use functions such as slideshow aren’t going to work anymore because ALL support has been cut off for Front Page Server Extensions.

On the bright side, Microsoft has 60+ day free trials of both Office and Expressions, and since I’ve saved my product key from FrontPage 2002 I do appear to actually be eligible for a cheaper upgrade version of Expressions once I’m ready to buy. They get the sale in the end, but they allow me to space out some of these expenses (sucker that I am). I managed to email myself all of my Word and Excel documents and get them over to the new computer. Also I installed the old FrontPage, found the proof of purchase from a $40 FTP service that I bought 5 years ago and sucked my site contents over here like that.

So now it’s time to list some movie cards and magazines on eBay and hopefully be able to afford to make my way out of this cave by end of winter.
